A1: Got PBLL? Project-Based Language Learning for all Languages
Project-based learning is an exciting, student-centered approach to language acquisition, which supports the Common Core Standards, and helps students develop higher level critical thinking skills as they engage collaboratively to investigate diverse cultural themes. Students create and present real-world projects on globally relevant issues and gain target language proficiency in keeping with the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines and the California World Language Standards.

A2: California Language Leadership Initiative (CALLI) - Cohorts 1 and 2
The California Language Leadership Initiative (CALLI) follows ACTFL’s LILL model (http://languageleadership.org/) and is designed to empower educators to become agents for change throughout California’s language classrooms and programs. This invitation-only institute will foster a growth mindset in emerging leaders with a heavy focus on continuing to build the leadership capacity of the 2016 and 2018 LILL Cohorts.

E1: Creating a 100% Student-Centered Classroom - Interactive Workstations
Participants will learn about, experience, and design a unit of world-language study that is entirely student-centered and student-led. Participants will acquire classroom management tools, instructional strategies, classroom organization techniques, and learning activities that will help to empower students to take ownership of their learning on their own terms while also integrating ACTFL best practices and language-use expectations.

E2: Immediate Immersion - 21st Century Language Instruction
This is not your parent's language class! Learn how to engage students from day 1 and bring your classroom into the 21st Century using language methods that conform to current second-language acquisition research. This presentation consists of a demo in German followed by debrief and discussion.
